Using GetBot with your Internet connection

GetBot uses the same Internet connection settings as Windows and Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer can reach the Web, then GetBot will be able to also.

Options Connections tab

In any GetBot window, click the Open link, choose Options, and click the Connections tab. You can change options while GetBot is downloading. You don't have to reopen GetBot windows for new options to take affect.

Use a dial-up connection

If you connect to the Internet with a modem set up through Dial-up Networking in Windows, check this box. If you have DSL, a cable modem, an Ethernet card, wireless, satellite, a connection through USB, a network or LAN, or something else, leave this box unchecked.

If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you can configure Windows to redial your modem. Have GetBot Wait for Windows to redial if line is dropped.

Windows 98 and earlier versions of Windows don't have the redial feature. Have GetBot Dial Automatically. GetBot will dial the default Dial-up Networking connection in Windows when it needs to connect to the Internet. If GetBot is downloading and your modem looses its connection, GetBot will redial automatically.

Internet Properties in Windows

In GetBot, click the Internet Options... button. Click Tools, Internet Options... in Internet Explorer, or open Internet Options in Control Panel. All three ways lead to the Internet Properties dialog box in Windows. Click the Connections tab to see and adjust your settings.

If you connect through a proxy server or virtual private network that is configured here, GetBot will work through it as well.

If you use a modem to connect to the Internet, make sure its connection is listed here and marked "(Default)". Choose Always dial my default connection.

Redial if line is dropped

If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you can configure Windows to redial your modem when its connection is lost. In Internet Properties, select the default dial-up connection and click Settings..., Properties, and the Options tab.

Uncheck all the Dialing options, and check the box Redial if line is dropped.
